Homeowners can keep track of their home heating oil consumption by using a measuring stick approximately 8 feet in length to periodically measure the fuel level.
Homeowners can also check their fuel oil tank for water. Coat the bottom 3-5 inches of the measuring stick with "water-paste". The paste will change color if water is detected on the tank bottom. Water paste can be purchased at most hardware stores and/or plumbing supply stores.
